October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In honor of this month, I would like to share a few tips on how to show proper awareness and politeness toward breast cancer patients. Many of us have been touched by this disease, either personally or through a family member. October is the month we take a moment to show our support and educate ourselves. October 15th is National Mammogram Day, and millions of people around the world join in this cause. This day encourages women to get screened for breast cancer; participants will raise funds and awareness. Awareness of breast cancer symptoms is essential. Some signs can be easily missed, and other symptoms can be identified early if we pay attention to what our body tells us and check regularly. It is also crucial for people to know how to behave when they are around someone undergoing treatment for this disease. - Wear a pink ribbon and help spread the word about breast cancer via social media platforms. - Write cards to your friends and family members battling breast cancer. - Organize a race or walk to raise funds for breast cancer treatment. - Send your loved one flowers or other presents during October. If you are visiting a person with breast cancer, please observe the following rules of etiquette: - Avoid saying, It's all in your head. - Avoid saying, 'Why are you so depressed?'. It sounds rude, but it's something many women with breast cancer have to deal with. - Do not give unsolicited advice. - Do ask her how she feels and encourage her to talk about her feelings. - Acknowledge that she feels scared or depressed or any others emotions she may be experiencing. Consider keeping the atmosphere light by discussing lighter topics like movies, music, or TV shows. - Don't talk about your health problems when your friend is sick. She doesn't need this additional stress on top of everything else.
Get checked, and stay safe.
